GTC Gives Back® Play for Pink Tennis Tournament

The Governors Towne Club Tennis Center will be the setting on Friday and Saturday, August 12th – 13th for the community’s 3rd Annual Breast Cancer Fundraiser – 2011 GTC Gives Back® Play for Pink Tennis Tournament – to benefit Susan G. Komen for The Cure® – Greater Atlanta and GTC Gives Back® Community Outreach.

This year’s fundraiser is a tennis event that will take place over two days and will encompass both mixed & regular doubles, Junior play, contests for the Fastest Serve and Most Games Won sponsored by T2Tennis, Prince, Fireside Natural Gas, Mellow Mushroom, La Parrilla Mexican Restaurants, and Governors Towne Club. Lunch and dinner will be provided both days along with prizes and a take-home Goodie Bag. Over 120 athletes of all ages are expected to play and compete in various contests to raise funds to fight breast cancer in the Greater Atlanta area.

Friday’s fun will include a Pool-side Fashion Show by Matilda Jane Clothing, little flirt clothing, Trends by Stiles, and Serious Tennis while players enjoy a fabulous luncheon sponsored by T2Tennis and Kroger. A Silent Auction will be held both days, featuring spectacular items such as a trip to US Open for Two, a signed tennis ball by World Ranked Rafael Nadal, a memento from USA Davis Cup team member, Sam Querrey and many more exciting donations. All day Saturday, area merchants and designers will be showcasing their wares in booths at the event for courtside shopping between games.

The event is open to the public. Players can participate in the 2011 GTC Gives Back® Play for Pink Tennis Tournament for a donation of $40 for one day or play both days for only $60. Juniors may participate for $20 per day. Spectators can watch and enjoy the food & festivities for only $20 per day. Fireworks and Concert at the Beach


Not ready to see the summer go, still thinking of island breezes and sunsets over the water? On Friday, August 19 come and enjoy a free night of music at the beach followed by a 23 minute fireworks display over Lake Acworth. Local artists, the Paul Hand Band will take the stage at 6:30 p.m.; Paul Hand has put together a power rock trio that plays an eclectic mix of modern and classic rock that has been entertaining the metro Atlanta area for the last 10 years. Featured artists Sons of Sailors will perform at 8:00 p.m., whether it is Buffett, Beach, Rock and Roll or Country this Athens, GA band can play it all. Fireworks will start at approximately 9:30 p.m. Bring your blankets and pack your picnic baskets for a night of great music and a spectacular fireworks display on the lawn at Cauble Park.

Tables can be purchased for this concert online through August 10 or at the Parks and Recreation Office through August 15. Tables are $50.00 each for City of Acworth residents and $60 for non residents. With the table you get 6 chairs and one parking pass. This parking pass will allow you to park at Cauble Park as long as spots remain available.

On the evening of the concert, parking at Cauble Park is by pass only. General public parking is available Downtown and you can walk or take a shuttle down to the park. This is a free shuttle service. If you park downtown, shuttles will pick you up at the city hall parking lot, the post office parking lot and the Acworth First Baptist Church.

Women’s Sprint Triathlon

The City of Acworth along with Georgia Multisport Productions will be hosting the PT Solutions Acworth Women’s Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, August 7, 2011. Ovarian Cycle, Inc. is the Official Charity for the event and it is sanctioned by USAT, the national governing body for the sport of Triathlon. The PT Solutions Acworth Women’s Triathlon will be held at Dallas Landing and will begin at 7:30 am.

Come out and support over 600 women young and old as they swim 400 yards, bike for 13 miles, and finish with a 5k run ending in downtown Acworth. Know someone in the race? Teeing Off for Kids 14th Annual Golf Tournament for SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center

SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center’s 14th Annual Teeing Off For Kids golf tournament will be held on September 19, 2011 at Brookstone Country Club in Acworth, GA. All golfers who participate will experience at least one win at the golf tournament- the satisfaction of helping create a community free of child abuse! All proceeds from the four-person best ball scramble will go towards the center.

ProCore Solutions has signed up as a gold sponsor and Eagle Vending will be providing beverages and snacks, but many additional sponsorship opportunities are still available.

Registration and catered breakfast is at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Immediately following the tournament there will be a catered awards reception with food, drinks and prizes.

Love the Lake Festival

The Acworth Love the Lake Festival takes place on Saturday, September 3, 2011 from 10am to 6pm and Sunday, September 4, 2011 from noon to 6pm. The Labor Day weekend festival takes place at Cauble Park near downtown Acworth and features over 150 arts & crafts vendors as well as 30 food vendors and live entertainment. There is also a large kids zone.

Love the Lake Festival Parade
The festival begins with the Love the Lake Festival Parade at 10am. The parade begins at Acworth First Baptist Church and goes south on Main St. to Cowan Rd. The Love the Lake Festival begins after the parade.

On Monday, July 4th, 2011, the City of Acworth and the Acworth Business Association are hosting an Independence Day celebration at Cauble Park. The celebration features live music by The Paul Hand Band starting at 4pm, Destination at 6pm, and headliners FLASHBACK starting at 8pm. At 9:30pm, watch as the best fireworks show in Cobb County takes place over Lake Acworth. Food and drinks will be available from vendors.

BIG DAY OUT

The BIG DAY OUT is coming to the Acworth Sports Complex on Saturday, June 18, 2011. The event is designed for special needs children and their families, and features inflatables, face painting, carnival games, music, video games, jugglers, balloon artists, sand art, a vendor walk, special visits from celebrities and professional athletes, and much more. Approximately 200 to 300 families are expected to attend, and the event is free (registration required).

Acworth Get Fit 5K

The City of Acworth and the Pro Wakeboard Tour invites the entire family out to Dallas Landing Park, on Saturday morning, May 21, 2011 for an exciting day of fun in the sun during the inaugural Acworth Get Fit 5K. The first annual event will feature racing for children, families and serious runners before crossing the finish line at the park’s beach, where the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will host its action-packed festivities for everyone to enjoy.

“The Acworth Get Fit 5K is a fun way for the whole family to be active and spend the day together,” said James Albright, Director of Parks & Recreation for the City of Acworth. “It’s exercise and entertainment all rolled up into one family-size event.”

The race will kick off at 8 a.m. with a chip-timed 5K run through and around the park on a scenic, fast and well-shaded route. Runners with little ones can participate on the same course at 8:05 a.m. for the untimed 5K Stroller Roll. The final races of the day will be held at 9 a.m. for the Kids Fun Run.

Post-race festivities will be held at the beach section of Dallas Landing Park, featuring an award ceremony, music, children’s activities, a food buffet, a ticket to the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour and more.

Proceeds from the Acworth Get Fit 5K will benefit the Acworth Special Needs Group and Special Needs Baseball field.

Dixie Highway Yardsale

The 90 mile Dixie Highway Yard Sale is an annual event that spans ninety miles from Marietta to Acworth and on through North Georgia. This yard sale is also a historic driving tour along the Dixie Highway. In fact, one of the frequently purchased items is a souvenir version of the Dixie Highway road sign. In addition to the yard sale event, organizers in each area are promoting everything the communities have to offer throughout the year. The yard sale takes place on June 3, June 4, and June 5, 2011 and begins at 8am on each day. There are plenty of great restaurants along the route, and signs will be in place to direct you to the yard sales.
