BIG DAY OUT

The BIG DAY OUT is coming to the Acworth Sports Complex on Saturday, June 18, 2011. The event is designed for special needs children and their families, and features inflatables, face painting, carnival games, music, video games, jugglers, balloon artists, sand art, a vendor walk, special visits from celebrities and professional athletes, and much more. Approximately 200 to 300 families are expected to attend, and the event is free (registration required).

Acworth Get Fit 5K

The City of Acworth and the Pro Wakeboard Tour invites the entire family out to Dallas Landing Park, on Saturday morning, May 21, 2011 for an exciting day of fun in the sun during the inaugural Acworth Get Fit 5K. The first annual event will feature racing for children, families and serious runners before crossing the finish line at the park’s beach, where the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will host its action-packed festivities for everyone to enjoy.

“The Acworth Get Fit 5K is a fun way for the whole family to be active and spend the day together,” said James Albright, Director of Parks & Recreation for the City of Acworth. “It’s exercise and entertainment all rolled up into one family-size event.”

The race will kick off at 8 a.m. with a chip-timed 5K run through and around the park on a scenic, fast and well-shaded route. Runners with little ones can participate on the same course at 8:05 a.m. for the untimed 5K Stroller Roll. The final races of the day will be held at 9 a.m. for the Kids Fun Run.

Post-race festivities will be held at the beach section of Dallas Landing Park, featuring an award ceremony, music, children’s activities, a food buffet, a ticket to the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour and more.

Proceeds from the Acworth Get Fit 5K will benefit the Acworth Special Needs Group and Special Needs Baseball field.

Shuttle rides will be available from the downtown Acworth parking lot from 6:00am-7:30am. The shuttle ride to the park will take approximately 7 minutes. Please allow yourself ample time prior to race start. The last shuttle departs at 7:30am.

Pilates Day at Strong Tower Pilates

Aquafina Pitch, Hit, & Run

The Aquafina Pitch, Hit, & Run competition is finally here! The Acworth Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the local competition on April 23rd, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Acworth Sports Complex Field 3 which is located at 4000 S. Main Street in Acworth.

This competition is a free skills competition that provides boys and girls, age 7 to 14, the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting, and running abilities. Winners can advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championship events at the 30 Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the MLB All-Star Game!

The City of Acworth Parks and Recreation Department is a 3-Time recipient of the Aquafina Major League Baseball/ National Parks and Recreation Association Double Play Grant for extraordinary participation Pitch, Hit, and Run competition. Let’s see if we can accomplish the same feat this year!

Cars, Chrome and Caring

The first annual Day’s Car and Bike show benefiting the Horizon League takes place on Saturday, June 11th, 2011 from 10 am-2pm. All makes and models are welcome. Registration begins at 10am, and the registration fee for vehicles entered into the show is $25 at gate or $20 pre-registration online. You must check in by noon to be included in judging. All proceeds go to the Horizon League of Acworth.

Horizon Kickball League

Come out and play! Teams are now forming for the 2011 summer Horizon kickball league. This league is open for all individuals who have special needs, ages 5-21 years old. Games will be held Tuesday nights for ages 5-12 and Thursday nights ages 13-21 from June 21st -July 28th, 2011. Registration deadline is June 3rd, 2011. The cost for the league is $15 which covers jerseys and league expenses. April Senior Luncheon

Join the City of Acworth Parks and Recreation Department on April, 19th, 2011 for the monthly Senior Luncheon. The event features lunch as well as bingo, and other special activities. The luncheon is held at Roberts School Community and Education Center in Acworth. Lunch is served at noon. After lunch will be several rounds of bingo with prizes.

Acworth Adult Flag Football League


Entering its third year, the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department’s Adult Flag Football League has more than doubled in size since its inception in 2009. Hosting 11 teams and over 120 participants in 2010, its largest season yet, the league is excited about opening registration for Spring 2011. Offering statistics, player(s) of the week, records, write-ups and box scores after each game, and the SuperJoe Bowl Championship to end post season play, the Acworth Adult Flag Football League is a joyful experience for those football fans that still love to play the game. Game play is 7 on 7 though teams may have a roster of up to 17 players. All games are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Amos Durr Field with no cost to spectators.

Start building your team and dynasty today! Team registration fee is only $350 which covers all your league expenses. Teams are responsible for providing their own jerseys. If you do not have a team, come out and participate in our Free Agent Sign-Up Day Monday, March 14 at 7:00pm located at Amos Durr Field. Free Agent registration is $35.00 and teams will be selected.

Opening of Dallas and Proctor Landing Parks

The opening of Dallas and Proctor Landing parks takes place on April 16, 2011. Dallas Landing is an 82 acre park located just off Main Street on Allatoona Drive. Proctor Landing Park is located on Proctor Landing Drive off Highway 92.
