Come out and join us for this exciting and unique class! Participants will create a beautiful floral arrangement for their home, office, or as a gift for a loved one. Projects will include wreaths, table arrangements, memorials, and seasonal pieces.

Classes will be held once a month. The June Session will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost of this class will be $30.00 for City of Acworth residents and $35.00 for non-city residents. All materials are included in the price of the class and all pre-cutting and gluing is done in advance.

Karate for Kids and Tai Chi

Acworth Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce Karate lessons for children ages 4 to 10. Karate is an excellent way to provide your child with exercise while at the same time learn proper discipline and improve learning and concentration skills. The cost of the class is $75 for city residents and $80 for non-residents. The next session runs from June 4 through August 1.

Tai Chi is also available under the instruction of Mr. Robinson. It is for ages 21 and older and for the 2 month session which runs June 4 through July 31, the cost of the class is $100.

Tap/Ballet with Heather Pace

This class is a combination class divided with 20 minutes of tap and 25 minutes of ballet. Since ballet is the basis for all dance technique, the combinations of both work hand in hand. The technical training is taught through ballet, which in turn helps teach the proper shifting of weight and patterns in movement for tap.

The classes are for ages 3-6 years old. The session runs from June 5 through July 24 on Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. -5:15 p.m. The cost of the class is $85.00 for city residents and $90.00 for non-residents.

The Pro Wakeboard Tour returns to Acworth from May 18-20, 2012. The three day event features exciting watersports action as well as plenty of great food and music, athlete autograph signings, prizes and drawings, as well as shopping at the most cutting-edge stores for water-sports equipment including boats, wakeboards, wakeskates, sunglasses and the latest in wakeboarding and surfing fashions.

This family oriented event will provide a fun filled day of sun, surf and excitement for all who attend.

Pro Wakeboard Tour Kicks of the 2012 Season in Acworth!

Acworth, Ga. The Pro Wakeboard Tour makes its return to Dallas Landing Park in Acworth, Georgia on Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19. The Main Event will take place on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour presented by Rockstar Energy Drink is a two-day event of water-sports action supported locally by the Acworth Business Association, Ahoy Marine, Extreme Propulsions, American Family Insurance–the Marvon Williams Agency, Shoreline Entertainment, Quickie Coupons, J.D’s Bar-B-Que, and PTS Sports. The event will be televised nationally on the Versus Network, brings riders to our city from all over the world, and has a significant economic impact on our community.

On Friday the event begins at 9:00 a.m. ends around 5:00 p.m., but not all of the action takes place on the water. On land, fans will experience tons of great food and music; athlete autograph signings; chances to win free stuff; and shopping at the most cutting-edge stores for water-sports equipment including boats, wakeboards, wakeskates, sunglasses and the latest in wakeboarding and surfing fashions. Block Party

The fun just keeps going on Saturday, May 19! Immediately following the end of the Pro Wakeboard Event, the Historic Downtown Acworth Block Party will kick off! The event begins at 8:00 p.m. and ends at midnight. The event will feature the Pro Wakeboard Tour awards presentation, the live music of the “Paul Hand Band,” radio personalities from 790 the Zone, outdoor dining, and much more! This event is made possible by the Acworth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Acworth Downtown Development Authority, and the City of Acworth. For more information visit www.acworth.org.

The Easter Bunny will be “dropping” in on Friday, March 30 at the Acworth Sports Complex, located at 4000 South Main St. Acworth, and he is bringing 20,000 eggs filled with candy. Make sure you are there by 8:00 p.m. to see the Easter Bunny make a special entrance!

The hunt will be for all children through the 5th grade. The children will be divided into four age groups.
1. The 0 – 3 year old group will begin at 8:00 p.m.
2. The PreK – Kindergarten group will begin at 8:15 p.m.
3. The 1st grade – 3rd grade group will begin at 8:30 p.m.
4. The 4th grade – 5th grade group will also begin at 8:30 p.m.

Within each age group there will be a prize egg that can be redeemed for great prizes. All participants will receive a mini-flashlight courtesy of Cobb EMC to help light their way. The hunts will take place on the football fields (North side of the Complex); parking will be available on the South side of the Complex where the baseball fields are located.

Again this year there will be a Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt on the Horizon Field. This hunt will begin at 8:30 p.m. and is for children through the 5th grade with Special Needs.

APRD Spring Preschool Sport Camp

After months of anticipation, the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department will be having a spring edition of Preschool Sports Camp. This is a non-competitive program to help three and four year olds develop basic skills for sports programs in the future.
The program gives children a chance to explore a variety of different sports all in one program. Preschool sports camp exposes these eager preschoolers to soccer, T-ball, basketball, and even speed & agility developmental sessions through 9 organized instructional sessions.

Parents come enjoy the spring weather with your child as we discover their potential to be the next big homerun hitter, soccer stud, and/or basketball superstar. Sessions are every Thursday morning from 9 am to 9:45 am beginning April 12th and ending June 7th. Every session will be held on The Horizon Field at the Acworth Sports Complex. Acworth Adult Flag Football League Spring Season Registration 2012

Mark your Calendars! With a break out third season, the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department has the premiere adult flag football league around. Records, statistics, player(s) of the week, write-ups and box scores after each game, and the SuperJoe Bowl to end post season play, the Acworth Adult Flag Football League is a joyful experience for those football fans that still love to play the game. Game play is 7 on 7 and teams may have a roster of up to 17 players. All games are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Amos Durr Field with no cost to spectators.

Registration begins in January! Start building your team and dynasty today! Team registration fee is only $350 which covers all your league expenses. Teams are responsible for providing their own jerseys. If you do not have a team, come out and participate in our Free Agent Sign-Up Day Monday, March 19 at 6:30pm located at Logan Farm Park. Free Agent registration is $35.00 and teams will be selected.

Now a tradition in the City of Acworth, the Acworth Achievers program recognizes a local resident for the contribution to the African America community during Black History Month. This years honoree was 76 year resident Claude Johnson. Mr. Johnson organized the first African American youth baseball team in Acworth in 1963 during the time where youth sports were still segregated.

His team stayed together and played other black teams until 1965 when youth sports were desegregated. Casually called “Acworth’s Biggest Fan,” Mr. Johnson received a proclamation from Mayor Allegood along with two baseball jerseys donated from the North Cobb High School baseball team.

New for 2012 – the Acworth Easter Egg Hunt is moving to Friday Night
Friday Night Flashlight Egg”stravaganza

On Saturday, April 16, 2011, the Easter Bunny is hopping on over to the Acworth Sports Complex in Acworth, Georgia.  The Easter Egg Hunt will include over 20,000 eggs filled with toys, candy and prizes.  Children under 12  are invited to participate, and the hunt will be divided into groups based on age.

Downtown Acworth – Classic Car Cruise Night:
The Acworth Classic Car Cruise takes place in Historic Downtown Acworth on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 4pm to 10pm. The car show features everything from Chevy Chevelles to Model T Fords. Over 200 automobiles will be on display and admission is free to the general public.

If you would like to display your car, no registration is required and a $2 charity donation is requested.  All proceeds go to the Horizon Field. It is suggested that you arrive around 4pm if you would like to enter your vehicle and ensure you get a good parking spot.

Merchants in Downtown Acworth will remain open during the event so visitors can also enjoy some shopping or dining at any of the great Acworth restaurants.
